Forever Wild: The Adirondacks in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era
Forever Wild: Americans and Their Land During the Gilded Age and Progressive Era" is a one-week immersion experience in the six-million-acre Adirondack Park where teachers live and learn at SUNY Cortland’s National Historic Landmark site, Camp Huntington. Participants explore 19th century conceptions of wilderness through site visits (the Vanderbilt’s Camp Sagamore and J. P. Morgan’s Camp Uncas and the Adirondack Experience), scholar-led workshops (Phil Terrie, Rebecca Edwards, Scott Manning Stevens) and discussions with best-selling YA fiction writer Jennifer Donnelly to explore the contested history of this unique landscape and its significance to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
