Dialogues on the Experience of War

In 2014, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) launched a new agency-wide initiative to encourage humanities programs that focus on the history, experience, or meaning of war and military service called Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War. This page highlights "Veterans Speak: War, Trauma, and the Humanities," the culmination of Governors State University's 2017 NEH funded project, along with materials related to the NEH Dialogues on the Experience of War grant program.

The video excerpt above features a discussion with project co-director and GSU Professor of English, Dr. Rosemary Erickson Johnsen, and Marine Corps Veterans Robert E. Mason and Victor Jesus Garcia. The moderator is Kevin Smith, Director of Veterans Affairs at Governors State University. The full interview session, including insight from project co-director and GSU Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Andrae Marak, is available here.
