Sor Juana Sonnet Unscrambler

Created March 4, 2011

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a major literary figure and the first great Latin American poet, is a product of el Siglo de Oro Español (Spanish Golden Age). This exercise introduces students to her sonnet, “A su retrato.”

Try your knowledge and luck to unscramble the sonnet (listed in the outline in its individual line segments) by resorting the lines.  Then determine its meaning and message. To move lines, click once on the Up or Down button in the toolbar.  Then select which line you would like to move up or down.  The line will move one space in the direction you have chosen.  Repeat until the sonnet is unscrambled.  Hints are available if you click on "The Sonnet" button to the right, under the EDSITEment logo.
