Picturing Freedom: Selma-to-Montgomery March, 1965

Created June 11, 2010

In this interactive students will learn about the impact of photography in the Civil Rights Movement by analyzing James Karales's photograph of the Selma to Montgomery March in 1965, reading about this march, and imagining themselves as a marcher in Karales's photograph. As an assessment, students will create postcards, incorporating their own visual images and descriptive writing about the March.
