Picturing America on Screen is an NEH-funded documentary film project produced by Channel 13, WNET, New York. A group of 25 films created by 9 talented directors presents a sampling of Picturing American art ranging from the mystery and beauty of Anasazi pottery to the sculptural poetry of contemporary artist Martin Puryear.

The Minnesota Historical Society, in partnership with the Atlanta History Center, the Chicago History Museum and the Oakland Museum of California, curated a major exhibit documenting this pivotal year. The year saw the peak of the Vietnam War, the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Kennedy, riots at the Democratic National Convention, assertions of Black Power at the Olympic Games and feminist demonstrations at the Miss America pageant.
For New Jersey Teaches Only
The Newark Museum and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invite teachers to apply for participation in the 2011-2012 Picturing America Conferences at the Newark Museum. These two conferences are specifically designed for New Jersey teachers to help them learn how to use art and material culture (objects produced by human beings) to teach American history and the humanities. Participation at each conference is limited to 50 middle and high school teachers of history, social studies, English- language arts, visual arts, and the humanities.
All applicants must be currently teaching in the classroom, and either applicant or school must be a recipient of the NEH’s Picturing America teaching resource. Application forms may be downloaded at http://www.newarkmuseum.org/NEHConferences.html and must be submitted by mail to the Museum no later than September 23, 2011. Applicants will be notified of admission by October 21, 2011.

The Digital History Reader (DHR) is comprised of two main content areas, each broken out into modules.
