For New Jersey Teaches Only
The Newark Museum and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invite teachers to apply for participation in the 2011-2012 Picturing America Conferences at the Newark Museum. These two conferences are specifically designed for New Jersey teachers to help them learn how to use art and material culture (objects produced by human beings) to teach American history and the humanities. Participation at each conference is limited to 50 middle and high school teachers of history, social studies, English- language arts, visual arts, and the humanities.
All applicants must be currently teaching in the classroom, and either applicant or school must be a recipient of the NEH’s Picturing America teaching resource. Application forms may be downloaded at http://www.newarkmuseum.org/NEHConferences.html and must be submitted by mail to the Museum no later than September 23, 2011. Applicants will be notified of admission by October 21, 2011.
The automobile’s impact on American life is everywhere. Each of the site’s five sections contains two essays, plus a select annotated bibliography or bibliographic essay to guide further reading.
The Digital History Reader (DHR) is comprised of two main content areas, each broken out into modules. The U.S. History section provides materials covering important themes and issues from the colonial era to the present. The European History section, entitled "Modern Europe in a Global Context," explores links between European and world history in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
